This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

I was on my way to debtors prison  Creditors were calling me constantly at home and at work. The first time I called "Julie" back she demanded I pay the entire debt. Of course I couldn't afford to. Hell if I had ten grand just lying around wouldn't I pay them already? "Julie" seemed to think I just liked the sound of her voice. I was a secret tycoon who just liked seeing my voicemail light blink. She threatened to dock my pay, and I told her that might not be such a bad idea. If the money came right off my cheque I'd learn to spend whatever was left and not have to worry. "Julie" didn't have the authority to do that though so she wasn't happy that I inadvertently called her bluff. They started taking my precious GST cheque and then my income tax return too. Then I was served court papers. I sat on the Statement of Claim for two days sweating and losing weight (not such a bad thing ). I called every legal aid office in Toronto and they all said they don't deal with student loans or they could only help me on their time, usually both. The clock was ticking--I had 10 days to respond before they took me to court and  me. If I could have afforded a lawyer I could have afforded to pay my loans, so that was out. I combed the internet looking for sites that could help and stumbled on here (cue angelic music). The name John LeBlanc kept coming up time and time again and since I had everything to lose I e-mailed him. Miraculously he contacted me the very next day! He explained the situation I was in (bad) but told me clearly and concisely how he could help. I was relieved but skeptical. It was still gonna cost me some initial funds that I didn't really have and had already earmarked for things like, oh Christmas. But I had no choice--frankly he was my one and only shot! There was no other place to go. Now how scary is it to hand over money for help on a problem you have in Ontario and the helper is in Nova Scotia?! I sweated for 2 more nights wondering if I was being swindled by those con artists that usually target pensioners. The legal documents he sent looked legit but what do I know? I even went so far as to call the law office who was representing the Crown (even John doesn’t know this  ) and asking them for info on my case. They confirmed that John was doing everything he had said he was doing for me and I’m still a little embarrassed I made the call but for my own piece of mind it was worth it.

He started on November 30, 2004 and by today Feb 3, 2005 it's a done deal. I’m a real human being again. My payments are mapped out, the Crown isn’t mad at me; I’m on my way to being a respectable tax-paying citizen again. He genuinely cares and has the know-how to help even dire situations like mine. He’s even gonna help me get the rest of my financial life in order! More people should know about this site. It’s just a fluke I found it. John LeBlanc rocks!
