This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

Got a fax from HRDC. My disability claim has been denied again, saying that I don't qualify for exceptional financial hardship. Even though when I applied my net income was only $1500 per month!

They asked for pay stubs and my 2001 income tax.

No reason or explanation given as to how they arrived at this conclusion.
When I agreed to spend about 40 hours trying to get all the info they wanted, I was told that they would use my income at the time I applied. They sure lied about that!

In addition, they are look BACK to determine hardship, not FORWARD which would make sense.

I have come to the conclusion that HRDC will do everything in its power to disqualify you from help.

The programs are in name only.

I agree.  Heaven forbid the Canadian government actually help someone.  That is, someone who isnt related to a MP, sleeping with an MP, has a business owned by an MP, gives money to an MPs campaign....etc etc....Canada is corrupt.

well, they've now told me how they calculated the denial of my benefit. Onto the next appeal stage. They've made another MAJOR FLAW in thier calculations .... needless to say, this one is more obvious that the others... Will post details in a few days after I calm down and deal with the current depression I'm working through...

Oh, by the way, they have twice now accused me of not making my Orderly Payment of Debts program payments. I told them the first time I had reciepts. They accused me again this week, saying the Royal Bank told them that I hadn't made any payments. The RB sent me a letter this week saying that they never conveyed that info to HRDC. Somebody aint telling the truth, and it aint the royal bank, and it aint me! Actually to be fair, HRDC does not understand the OPD program. They don't understand that I make payments to the BC government, not directly to the bank under the OPD program and since the OPD program says the RB didn't respond to my OPD application, they cant send the payments. RB says they sent info to OPD.... oh well....
