This website is a testimony to the problems Canadian Student Loan borrowers experienced from approximately 1996 to 2008 and until their loans were paid off.

The privatization of the Student Loans system by the Chretien and Martin Liberal governments broke the system and defaulted thousands of borrowers who were trying to pay their loans. There were even stories of suicide due to the harassment of borrowers.

Read the report that I prepared back in 2007 here. Canada Student Loans-The Need for Change Fortunately the new Conservative government at the time revamped the program and fixed the system for new borrowers, but borrowers under the previous program were left with ruined credit and continued harassment from debt collectors.

I call on the Canadian Government to apologize to the borrowers affected by this fiasco and make amends.

Unfortunately the Liberal government is again clobbering the Education system with their upcoming changes to International Student Visas. Yes, there's a problem, but instead of a well thought out plan, they have pulled the emergency brake on the train causing a derailment. This has introduced unprecedented instability for both private and public education institutions who serve both international and local students.

Universities can't plan. I've heard of courses being cut because the government has no process in place for universities to send the newly required acceptance letters to the government.

This means that students who have been accepted can not attend courses that start in the summer 2024 semester. With cut sections, current Canadian students will have trouble getting courses, and may have to switch to part-time which changes their enrollment status and might trigger repayment of their loans or ineligibility for funding. I've seen this before. It wreaks havoc on the student loan borrowers.

Again, the Liberal government has messed up the education environment. Will the new system needed in a rush for the acceptance letters be the new Arrivecan scandal?

I call on the government to implement a slower phased in approach and delay the requirement of the acceptance letters until a process is in place to submit these letters.

When I first finished University I did not have full time employment. I was able to pay the full amount (over $700 a month) on my student loans for awhile. I began to have problems paying that much and support myself. I tried to negotiate a smaller payment plan, consolidation, interest relief, with no luck. My loans finally went into default.

With no where to turn I sought the advice of a credit counsellor, who told me the only option was to go on a consumer proposal, which I was told was NOT bankrupt and would be better for my credit. It was a HUGE mistake. It did not help me at all, infact it only made my situation worse.

Like many of you I was frustrated and desperate and needed some help. I was getting phone calls everyday, not only to my home, but to my family's houses as well. I felt overwhelmed and depressed about my situation. I owed a HUGE amount of money and felt there was no hope for me.

I decided to search the web. I found canadastudentdebt.ca. After reading and posting on that site for awhile, I kept hearing the name John LeBlanc and CFWG. I was very skeptical to enlist the help of a man whom I never met and lived in Nova Scotia, that and the fact that I owed a HUGE amount of money- John always told me "size doesn't matter" Laughing

I finally took a leap of faith and asked John for help. Let me tell you it was the BEST thing that I could've done. As soon as he became my advocate, the phone calls stopped and the pressure and stress I was feeling began to lift. He kept in contact with me via the phone and email me and let me know what was happening. I am with John for the long term and he has guided me every step of the way, even helping me in a personal crisis.

Recently John saved me over $24 000. He was able to get me a settlement with one of my creditors.

I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH JOHN and the CFWG. For a small fee John has not only saved me money, but my financial future as well. Everything was well worth it.

For anyone who is in need of help, do NOT hesitate to call John, he CAN and WILL help.

Again, thanks so much.
Jenn
